The richness of a language is not only steeped in vocabulary, style and grammar but is also reflective of the rich and diverse cultures and civilizations. The School of Languages at the FSH houses the Departments of English, Tamil, Hindi and French with a view to providing incoming freshers two semesters of a language of their choice keeping the larger placement environment in mind with an accent on communication skills.
· Department of English
The Department of English was started in 2003 offering General English course to only one major Department: B.Sc Biotechnology. Now, it offers General English course to nine departments.
The faculty members consistently enrich themselves in a variety of ways such as participating and conducting seminars, conferences and workshops, presenting papers and publishing articles.
· Department of Tamil
The Department of Tamil was started in 2003 to offer General Tamil as an optional language to 60 students of B.Sc Biotechnology.
In the period of nine years it has grown to offer General Tamil course to all the First Year under-graduate students of the Faculty of Science and Humanities.
· Department of Foreign Languages
FRENCH
French, deemed as a global language, is widely used in Europe and Canada. The course also enhances the scope of engineering students finding placement in companies with French collaborations in India.
GERMAN
Numerous German companies are emerging in India. The increased cooperation between the two countries have opened job opportunities in Germany as well.
JAPANESE
Engineering students benefit greatly in receiving instruction in the three Japanese scripts, namely Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.
KOREAN
Currently people become involved in learning Korean to a greater extent, because this kind of language can provide one with societal and business opportunities in the countries which speak Korean as their main language.
