“SRM University” is one of the top ranking universities in India with over 20,000 students and 1,500 faculty, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Management, “Medicine” and “Health sciences”, and “Science and Humanities”.
“Bioscience” intersects with a number of other “scientific” branches, such as “Chemistry” and “physics”, “Genetics”, “Biochemistry”, “Microbiology”, “Medical Sciences”, “Immunology”, “Biotechnology” and “Bioinformatics”. The “School of Bio-sciences” has the departments of “Bio-technology” and “Bio-informatics”. “Biotechnology” is a field of applied “biology” that involves the use of living organism and “Bioinformatics” involves the application of computer technology to the management of biological information.
The department of Biotechnology which offers B.Sc Biotechnology, M.Sc Biotechnology, B.Sc Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, M.Sc Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and Ph.D programmes was started in 2002 with an intake of 80 students in the under - graduate program and 25 students at the post graduate level. Currently the combined program has 250 students with 13 dedicated and qualified faculty members assisted by 2 technical staff members.
The Department of “Bioinformatics” was started in the academic year 2004 to enable ing students understand and learn the fundamental principles of Science through optimal methods of teaching.
The Department has well experienced, highly qualified and dedicated faculty members who encourage students to achieve their career goals. The department has independent laboratories for conducting “biotechnology” and “bioinformatics” experiments.
